Imaynalla Kashanki. Peru Through Archaeologists' Eyes

“It is very hard to bring someone into a world as distant as Peru using just a handful of photographs. A few sentences cannot capture the wonder of the architecture built on steep slopes, or the colours of its flora and fauna - but we will try,” say the authors of the new temporary exhibition “Imaynalla Kashanki”, on display in the basement of Collegium Maius.

Archaeology students from the Jagiellonian University decided to share their impressions and observations gathered during a two-month expedition to Peru. The exhibition lifts the veil on the work of an archaeologist and introduces visitors to the beautiful landscape and Andean culture. The striking colours and contrasts of the photographs are the result of using analogue technique.

“By fixing images on film, we wanted to achieve a certain authenticity. I reach for the camera when I feel a moment takes my breath away, when it is exceptional,” says the photographer.

Authors of the exhibition

The project’s authors are Natalia Klimczyk and Blazej Krupa, archaeology students interested in pre-Columbian cultures and Andean archaeology. The exhibition can be seen in the basement of Collegium Maius; admission is free.
