What to expect

The Krakow Pinball Museum is a hands-on museum: your ticket includes unlimited free play on every machine, so this is a place you play rather than just look at. It sits in a vaulted 15th-century cellar on Stradomska, a few minutes’ walk from Wawel Castle, with more than 300 square metres of pinball tables and classic arcade cabinets going back to the 1930s. The oldest machine on the floor was built in 1936.

The collection traces the whole arc of the format: electromechanical pinballs (EM) driven by solenoids and switches, later solid-state (SS) tables running on electronics and transistors, and a wall of classic video games including Asteroids, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, OutRun and Metal Slug. For an international visitor it is an easy, low-planning stop - no language barrier, good for a rainy afternoon or for families, and a change of pace from Krakow’s churches and galleries. There is a bar on site serving coffee, tea and soft drinks.

Visiting in practice

The museum is open seven days a week: Monday to Thursday 14:00-21:00, Friday until 22:00, and longer at weekends - Saturday 12:00-22:00 and Sunday 12:00-21:00. A standard ticket is 50 PLN for one hour of play or 70 PLN for the whole day; a reduced ticket for children and teenagers under 18 is 40 PLN per hour or 60 PLN for the day. Every ticket includes unlimited play on all the machines. Allow around ninety minutes to work through the collection and get a few games in, more if you are a serious player.

Getting there

The museum is at Stradomska 15, on the corridor that links the Old Town with Wawel Castle and the Kazimierz district. From the Main Square it is about a ten-minute walk south toward Wawel Hill, and the nearest tram stops are at Stradom, right by the door. The entrance leads down into a cellar, so look for it at street level rather than in a shopfront window.

Nearby

Retro-gaming fans should also visit the Krakow Arcade Museum and its collection of cabinets and consoles. A short walk into Kazimierz, the Museum of Engineering and Technology displays vintage vehicles and machinery, while just the other way, minutes from the door, stands Wawel Royal Castle.
