What to expect

The Museum of the Kraków University of Economics is a small campus museum devoted to the history of one of Kraków’s oldest business and economics schools. It is a niche stop rather than a headline attraction: the display is intimate and memorabilia-driven, best suited to visitors curious about Polish academic tradition. Opened on 5 October 2004 (originally as the Academy of Economics Museum), it grew out of a “cabinet of memorabilia” assembled from the university’s fiftieth anniversary in 1975.

The single-room exhibition gathers student record books and diplomas, historic plaques from the institutions that preceded the university, student caps in the school colours (maroon and green), a collection of typewriters, the art deco fountain pen of professor Arnold Bolland, and an 18th-century wooden Baroque sculpture of St John of Nepomuk. Do not expect interactive galleries or English-language tours as standard - contact the museum in advance if you need commentary.

Visiting in practice

The museum is on the first floor (room 110) of the university’s main building at ul. Rakowicka 27. Entry is by appointment only and admission is free. Call or email ahead to confirm availability and arrange a viewing; without a booking the room will not be open. A visit is short, so it works best combined with other stops nearby.

Getting there

The University of Economics campus sits on ul. Rakowicka, about one kilometre northeast of the Main Square (Rynek Główny), right beside Kraków Główny railway station and the adjacent shopping centre. From the Old Town it is a fifteen-minute walk; from the station, trams and buses stop within a couple of minutes. The location by the city’s main transport hub makes it easy to reach on foot or by public transport.

A short walk away on ul. Wita Stwosza, the Home Army Museum tells the story of the Polish Underground State. Toward the Old Town, the Czartoryski Museum holds Leonardo’s Lady with an Ermine, while Krzysztofory Palace, the main seat of the Museum of Kraków, traces the history of the city itself.
