What to expect

The Museum of Engineering and Technology Krakow occupies a historic tram depot on ul. Świętego Wawrzyńca in Kazimierz - a cluster of brick halls where the city’s trams spent their nights for decades. The complex itself is a protected industrial monument and one of the more atmospheric corners of the district.

The permanent exhibition, “Miasto. Technoczułość” (roughly: “City. Technosensitivity”), explores how technology shapes urban life, from transport and industry to everyday machines. Vintage trams and vehicles share the halls with a modern, accessible narrative - this is one of Krakow’s most family-friendly museums and copes well with children. A temporary exhibition, “Kuchnia od kuchni” (on kitchens and cooking), runs as of July 2026. Audio guides are available, which helps if you do not read Polish.

The museum also runs two branches beyond Kazimierz: the Stanisław Lem Garden of Experiences at al. Pokoju 68, an open-air science park full of hands-on installations, and Hangar Czyżyny at os. 2 Pułku Lotniczego 26a, right next to the Polish Aviation Museum. Both branches have their own tickets and their own opening hours, so one visit does not cover the lot.

Visiting in practice

Allow ninety minutes to two hours for the main site. Tuesdays bring free entry to the permanent exhibition. A combined ticket for the permanent and temporary shows costs PLN 45 (reduced 35); a family ticket for the permanent exhibition is PLN 95, and preschool-age children pay PLN 10. Group bookings go through rezerwacja@mit.krakow.pl. Last entry is at 17:00, audio guides are issued until 16:30, and the ticket office takes a break from 14:10 to 14:30 - a small detail that can catch you out in the queue.

Getting there

Ul. Świętego Wawrzyńca lies in the eastern part of Kazimierz, a few minutes on foot from plac Wolnica and ul. Szeroka. The nearest tram stops are on ul. Starowiślna; walking from the Main Market Square takes about twenty minutes.

Nearby

Five minutes away on plac Wolnica sits the Ethnographic Museum Krakow. The Old Synagogue stands on ul. Szeroka and the Galicia Jewish Museum on ul. Dajwór. Across the river, past the Bernatek footbridge, you reach Cricoteka.
